Etsy Treasury

I created a Treasury for the first time on Etsy yesterday. Once again I loved the way it really made me search through Etsy and I was blown away by the sheer volume of such high quality work and photographs on there. I certainly have a lot to learn about online selling that's for sure...: )

A blast from the past

Wow! What a blast from the past. This is an ancient cross stitch project from 13 years ago and its yellowing around the edges proves it : )

Readers may or may not know that I was ill with ME at the age of 15 for 2 years. I had to stop going to school and had home tutoring for an hour a week for the last year of my GCSEs. This is why I ended up with 2 GCSEs and failed the other 3. The matter wasn't helped by the tutor telling me to read the wrong books but, hey, what can you expect from LEA tutoring?

Anyway I was much worse than I am at the moment, lacking the energy to open the curtains or get dressed. Stitching this picture was just about the only activity I could manage for about 6 months. Mum bought me the cross stitch kit from one of those bookshops which sell end of lines. It was dead cheap and the design is a bit lacking but it kept me occupied...along with the radio...which was on endlessly.

It's sad that a lot of people get into craft through illness but it's nice that crafting entertains them and keeps them sane.

I've been meaning to frame it for the last 13 years and hope to get around to it soon : )

Debbie Bliss Bunting

A few weeks ago I made a rare visit to the local wool shop. I was nervous as I cannot go in there and not buy wool so I set myself a limit of £10 which usually helps. I came out with a ball of light pink Patons Serenity for a few quid and a copy of the summer edition of Debbie Bliss Magazine. This yarn is very soft and easy to knit up. It knits up quite loose so if you are a loose knitter you should bear this in mind. Usually the patterns for accessories alongside the jumpers and tops are useless but I am highly impressed with my cabled bunting flag! Some bunting will look great around my bedroom walls.

It has only used up about a quarter of my ball so I am cracking on with some more...

Folksy Friday

My selections from Folksy today are quite simply stunningly beautiful. I love the colours you find in glass work; so deep, vibrant and eye-catching. Enjoy : )

Rose in bloom

I've been enjoying some relaxing cross stitch in the past two weeks. I started this rose pattern about a year ago but wasn't pleased with the unopened first rose. It didn't entice me to carry on stitching and I thought I had started a piece that was too large for my concentration span. Well, my concentration must have improved as I'm finding the stitching in pink very enlivening and pleasing. I was very impressed with the second rose and am looking forward to finishing the blossoming process with five roses, the final one being completely open. It is beautiful but as you can see it's become quite ragged. This is because it's a large piece of fabric and I should use my rectangular frame but it makes my arms ache! The act of putting it in a hoop is making the fabric flop over on itself. I will press it when finished obviously, and framing it will stretch any folds out too.

I started it as I was looking at rose prints for my bedroom wall and couldn't believe the price of them. So I looked on the DMC website and downloaded the free pattern.

Cath Kidston Bag Finished!

Sorry for the lack of posts - personal circumstances and politics have overtaken my life somewhat. I didn't play any official role in the General Election but it's of huge personal interest...

I thought I would let you know that I finished the Cath Kidston bag. I decided I would handstitch the buttonholes as I wasn't confident I could sew such a fiddly small area with the sewing machine. It was good practice.

I'm looking forward to wearing it when the risk of rain goes away.
