Sponsored Walk - Photos & Thanks!

Well I managed it! I walked a total of 7-10 miles yesterday as I walked a bit further than I had planned at Hestercombe House. The final 2 miles dragged and were a bit painful on the way home, but as I've raised over £60 so far, that soon became bearable! Many thanks indeed to everyone who has generously donated - I expected £50 so have been very pleasantly surprised...

I had a beautiful day for a country walk and enjoyed the sun when it shone underneath my sunhat at 1pm after lunch!

The formal gardens are stunning with spectacular views over the countryside surrounding them. If you still want to donate - please click on the link on the right of this blog which will take you to my fundraising page. The page will still be open for donations until July so you have plenty of time to save up!

Sponsored Walk

As some of my readers might already know from my twitter/facebook updates and my fundraising pages here and here, I am doing a sponsored 7 mile walk for Diabetes UK. If you would like to sponsor me for the walk this sunday, please click the widget to the right of this post and give anything from a pound upwards. I have raised £52 so far but would love to make it to my target of £75 - so another £23 is needed between today and sunday.

Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in the blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly. There are currently over 2.5 million people with diabetes in the UK and there are more than half a million people with diabetes who have the condition and don’t know it. I'm in two of the 'increased risk' categories on the website - something which has certainly made me think about my lifestyle and how I can motivate myself to enjoy exercise.

This is a real first for me - I have never engaged in any kind of sponsored activity before and am completely unfit. My 'get fit to fundraise' activities over the coming months will lead to a 36 mile fundraising walk for a different cause over four days in June - the Coleridge Way in Somerset which I am very much looking forward to...when fit!

Gingham Noticeboard

I've been meaning to do this for so long! Why I've put it off I have no idea as it ended up taking all of 20 minutes. I'm sure everyone has seen this idea before - covering a noticeboard with fabric and it's so easy...

There was an old craggy wooden noticeboard downstairs that was about to be chucked so I rescued it and pulled the wooden edges off excitedly. All I did then was stick everything together - doesn't it look pretty? :)

Birthday Bag

It's been a busier month than usual so I decided to take a break from blogging. A couple of weeks ago I managed to knit the bag above in ten days! I finished it after the photo was taken but it was a late birthday present so I had to wrap it up and forget about blogging :)

I tried to sew a zip in. To knitting. And stocking stitch as well. It said to in the pattern, but I've since found out this is well known to be a big problem. It didn't sew to the knitted edges properly and part of why I struggled was because the zip seemed a bit wimpy compared to the big curls of knitting I was sewing it onto. It just doesn't go. I have no idea what I could have used instead as the top edges curled over so much a press stud wouldn't have been sufficient.

Perhaps this is why so many of the other bag patterns I've seen aren't so large! It was a lovely present and the first time I've knitted a gift for someone which was extremely satisfying...but I worry about the zip :)
